    Alan T. Sugiyama High School at South Lake is an option high school with continuous enrollment.

    High school students enrolled in Seattle Public Schools can transfer to Alan T. Sugiyama at South Lake at any time during the school year. We are also enrolling rising 9th grade and current high school students for next year.

    School Hours: 9 a.m. - 3:50 p.m.
    Early Release Wednesday: 9 a.m. - 2:35 p.m.

    The Residency Summer Intensive Application for the 2021 is now LIVE!!

    The Residency is now accepting applications for the 2021 cohort!
    Our Hybrid 2021 Summer Workshop Series is for all aspiring hip-hop artists and producers ages 16-24 who have a desire to take the next step in their artistic and personal development, and are based near the greater Seattle area. Participants will work with some of the region’s best teaching artists and industry professionals. Applicants will apply for one of two tracks:
    • VOCAL TRACK: Participants in the Vocal Track group will focus on songwriting, rapping, singing, poetry, and all vocal aspects of hip-hop.
    • PRODUCTION TRACK: Participants in the Production Track group will focus on the craft of beat-making, song arrangement, and audio engineering.

    • Receive a $400 stipend upon completion of the program
    • Experience a fully-funded two-week summer music program and learn from established industry professionals and artists
    • Make music and learn about the music business and social justice issues
    • Receive a certificate of completion signed by Macklemore and teaching artists
    • Have access to special year-round opportunities as The Residency alumni
    DATES: August 16th - August 27th, 2021 (excluding weekends)
    TIME: 1 PM - 3 PM
    LOCATION: A mix of in-person and online workshops:
    • Live on Zoom
    • In-person at The Ruby Room Recording Studios

    Youth ages 16-24 with an established desire to pursue hip-hop and music as a career must apply online and be able to attend our in-person events at The Ruby Room Recording Studios in Seattle, WA. We offer free bus passes for transportation to The Ruby Room Recording Studios.
    The Residency aims to directly address the access barriers many underserved youth and families face when asked to choose between paying for an experiential learning opportunity and getting a summer job. This workshop series is an opportunity to provide up to 30 youth artists with a high-quality arts experience that supports them financially as they pursue their artistic development. Additional opportunities and programming exist beyond the summer intensive for each cohort.
