Black History Night
On Thursday, February 27th, South Lake will celebrating Black History month with an evening full of history, entertainment and cuisine. Don't miss out on student presentations and talent honoring the accomplishments and struggles of well known, and not so well known, African Americans who have paved the way for equal rights and opportunity. An extension of this evening will be a Black History assembly on the afternoon of Friday, February 28th.
Achievement Award Recipient, Second Year in a Row!
South Lake is the Washington Achievement Award recipient for the second consecutive year. This recognition by the State is truly an honor and is one we are striving for each year. One of our notable accomplishments is with each year, more and more seniors are graduating: last school year we had 38 students walk across the graduation stage. The year is off to a fantastic start! We are confident that we will continue to support our students toward graduation.
New Assistant Principal
We would like to take a moment to welcome our new assistant principal, Makela Steward. Ms. Steward has local roots here in South Seattle: She is a graduate of Rainier Beach High School and has spent over a decade teaching for Seattle Public Schools. She comes to us with a plethora of ideas, a passion for collaboration, and strong ties to the community. Welcome, Ms. Steward! South Lake is excited for your leadership in the 2013-2014 school year.
Join Leadership and earn credit! Come to Ms. Green's room after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Develop your leadership skills and have the opportunity to travel and represent South Lake High School for FCCLA. See Ms. Green for more information.
Help plan our yearbook after school on Fridays. We can use your help taking photographs, survyeing students, and writing articles. Your involvement will also count toward service learning hours needed for graduation. Come by Ms. Wakamatsu's room on Fridays afterschool.
Come to Ms. Wakamatsu's room on Mondays after school for prom planning. The end of the school year will be here sooner than we know it, so let's take the time to plan a South Lake prom that is off the chain! See Ms. Wakamatsu for more information.
